Centerpieces that Flower, Sparkle and Pop! - My first DIY project!!

These jewel toned centerpieces maximize flowers, dimaonds and gorgeous colors. I was really surprised at how simple this creative and elegant centerpiece option turned out to be. I’ve been scouring every DIY, vintage and budget friendly web site and book out there for wedding centerpiece ideas and I came across some very helpful advice on how to cut costs on your wedding tablescapes. To maximize your dollar without sacrificing your décor, it suggested emphasizing your use of flowers and candles. Now, I’m not talking about going to a wedding specialty flower shop - Not to say that you might not find a fabulous deal at your local florist or even better, your local grocery superstore’s flower section -  but this particular DIY project focuses on faux flowers and how to make them sparkle and pop with rhinestones, ribbon and lots of color.

I found this fabulous idea from another DIY-er Bride on the budget-friendly web site, Wedding Bee. Her centerpieces were Pink and black damask with a long dangling onyx (looking) gem in the center. When I saw how gorgeous her flowers had turned out, I just knew I had to try it for myself.

So far I have created 1 Purple, 1 Fuchsia and 1 White one and my goal is to create at least one more each of the purple and fuchsia and maybe add some red ones too.

Each centerpiece took me about 20 minutes to a half hour and I’d estimate that each one cost me about 6 dollars and 15 cents to make. I found ALL my supplies at the dollar store (except the glue which was at Walmart). Not bad, for a wedding centerpiece, huh? The Dollar Store has literally become my go-to for all things wedding and DIY related.

Here is what I used for each one:

1 Glass Vase - $1.00

3 Flower Bushes (7 stems in each; your choice of color and type) - $3.00

1 Foam Floral insert (same width as the mouth of your vase) - $1.00

1 Colors Wide Ribbon with Wire (I used a sparkly sheer Silver) - $0.10

1 Color Satin Ribbon (I chose a majestic purple to match the dark purple roses) - $0.10

1/2 of a Dangling, sparkly earring set - $0.50

Clear Aqua Gems (or your choice of vase filler) - $0.25

12-18 Rhinestones in your choice of color (I chose purple to match the ribbon) - $0.10

Hot Glue/E6000 (Any adhesive that will stick to glass and fabric) $0.10

I would love some opinions on what you think of my centerpieces so far? Also, I am thinking about adding a few things to these centerpieces – like a few feathers mixed in with the flowers, alternated with rhinestone headpins. These centerpieces will also be surround by short votives, diamond confetti (and possibly more flower petals). What do you think?
